Life Skills

At Grange, we aim to equip all pupils with the life and functional skills needed to lead fulfilling and as independent a life as possible. We recognise that for young people with special educational needs, every experience is an opportunity for learning.

Life skills are central to our curriculum and are embedded across all subjects and daily activities. We place equal importance on academic achievement and developing the practical skills pupils need to succeed in everyday life.

Our pupils are given opportunities to develop a wide range of skills, from personal care and home management to financial awareness, online safety, and accessing the local community. These experiences help build independence, confidence and social understanding.

Our life skills curriculum is flexible and personalised, guided by each pupil’s EHCP outcomes and targets, individual strengths, and identified needs. Learning takes place through both structured lessons and real-life experiences, including enrichment activities and visits.

Key areas of our Life Skills curriculum include:

  • Home Management
  • Personal and Environmental Safety
  • Accessing Services and the Local Community
  • Financial Capability
  • Technology Use
  • Leisure Skills
  • Drugs Education

Progress is supported by adapted frameworks, including the Autism Education Trust (AET) progression framework, ensuring each pupil’s development is carefully monitored and supported.
