Careers Guidance
Work Experience
The Government’s careers strategy aims to make sure that all young people in secondary education get a programme of advice and guidance that is stable, structured and delivered by individuals with the right skills and experience.
At Grange Academy we use the Gatsby Benchmarks to measure the quality of our provision. At our last evaluation we scored 100% for every benchmark.
The Gatsby Benchmarks
The Baker Clause
The Baker Clause stipulates that schools must allow colleges and training providers access to every student in years 8- 13 to discuss non-academic routes that are available to them. Grange Academy will achieve this by working in partnership with local providers so that all pupils can access information as applicable, from years 8 – 13.
The ways in which providers will be granted access may include:- Assemblies
- Employer and Employee visits
- Engagement events
- 1:1 introduction for students and their parents
- Virtual or live class discussions
- Open Days
- College trips
The school reserves the right to refuse requests for access at their discretion if we feel that a request would be detrimental to the safety or wellbeing of children or staff, or if granting the request would be likely to bring our school or the Trust into disrepute.
Careers Programme
At Grange Academy, careers education is embedded throughout the curriculum from primary through to secondary. Pupils explore future pathways through life skills lessons, assemblies, subject teaching, form time and enrichment activities.
Where appropriate, pupils in year 10 and 11 take part in work experience and community-based placements. Pupils also develop employability skills through employer encounters, careers research, interview preparation, CV writing, higher education opportunities and post-16 pathway planning.
Our careers programme helps pupils build confidence, raise aspirations and prepare for adulthood. Success is measured through pupil aspirations, knowledge of career pathways, and positive transition outcomes into further education, training or employment. Feedback from pupils, parents and partners helps us continually review and improve our provision.
Aspirations are discussed with all pupils at the end of each term and pupil views are added to their termly reports. They are also discussed as part on the annual EHCP review process.
